Things to do in summer

Here's the Radtke Family’s Short List of Fun Things to Do here in the Summer. Some work in winter too. You'll find more..

1. Walk and shop Main Street in Breckenridge, Stop often to take in the views.
2. Play most anything in the city park next door. Check the mountain view.
3. Ride to Breck’s Peak 8 Base Lift Area. Ride the giant slalom down the mountain. Walk the giant human maze. Ride the lift and look for this condo from the top (hint: find the sled hill and park)
4. Ride to the Breck Recreational Facility. Swim in one of the pools. Do the indoor rock wall climb.
5. Rent bikes at Executive Resorts. Ride to Frisco. Either ride back (uphill) or load on a bus.
6. Go to the factory outlet malls in Silverthorn.
7. Go to a concert in Breckenridge at the riverwalk.
8. Watch postings for special events in Breck, Frisco and Dillon, like the Colorado Annual Ribfest, or special street concerts and festivals, for example.
9. Just drive around and check things out. Try mountain roads. The views are incredible.
10. Look up at all the stars around here at night.
11. Drive the “Old Dam Road” which is a “frontage road” that parallels Hwy 70 between Frisco and Silverthorn (goes past Frisco Holiday Inn). Go over the giant dam and look down at Silverthorn. Imagine how Silverthorn would be washed out if this thing ever broke.

Day Trips
1. Drive to Georgetown. Ride the Georgetown Loop Railway. Walk historic Georgetown. Then drive to Idaho Springs and eat at the Buffalo Bar. Scenic return towards Dillon by exiting Hwy 70 before the Eisenhower tunnel, and stop at the top of Loveland pass for an incredible view.
2. Go on one of the white water raft trips. (Get brochures at Executive Resorts.)
3. Drive to Royal Gorge near Canon City and spend the day. Lots of kid’s stuff too.
4. Drive to Estes in Rocky Mountain National Park
5. Drive to Vail or Aspen or Steamboat and see the town.
6. Drive to Denver and Boulder. Shop, or tour the Denver Mint.
7. Take the free lift to the top of Copper Mountain. Walk up from there onto the giant boulders. Or rent a bike and bring it up the lift and ride down the mountain (we haven’t tried that yet).
8. Drive to Colorado Springs, starting south from Breck. Visit Pike’s peak, Airforce academy, Castle rock, Garden of the Gods, etc.
9. This is a two day trip: Drive to Durango and explore for the day, stay at a hotel for the evening. Next morning drive to Mesa Verde to tour the Cliff dweller Indian's ancient cliff palaces. Unbelievable.
